The American Gold Buffalo coin is the first 99.99% fine, 24-karat gold coin produced by the United States Mint. The US Mint began producing the American Gold Buffalo in 2006 to expand its product portfolio beyond its standard 22-karat American Gold Eagle coins and to compete directly with the 24-karat Canadian Gold Maple Leaf. The American Gold Buffalo is legal tender in the United States, with a face value of $50, though the market value of this 1-ounce gold coin is much higher.
This is the only nationally minted gold coin to bear the historical design of the “Indian Head” or “Buffalo Nickel” coin first produced in 1913. This popular style makes the American Gold Buffalo instantly recognizable to investors, increasing its liquidity. Thanks to its higher purity, the American Gold Buffalo is easier to ship and transport internationally than its 22-karat counterpart, the American Gold Eagle.
First struck in 1987, the Britannia Gold coin became an instant classic. Today, it marks one of the flagship coins of The Royal Mint and one of the most popular bullion products. While the design of the Britannia coins has changed slightly over the years, they all feature a statue of Britannia standing on a rock with a trident in her hand. The coins also feature the word "Britannia" and the year of minting. Collectors highly prize the Britannia Coin series, and coins from earlier years are especially valuable.
